Professional Bio

I am a consultant and peer reviewer for museums, galleries, historic sites, government agencies, and professional associations in Canada, the United States, and the U.K. I am also the owner and editor of the e-newsletter Museum Education Monitor. I started my career as first the Curator of the Oakville Museum and then the Curator of The Gibson House Museum in Toronto.

Coming to the field with a B.A. in Modern History from the University of Toronto (1975) I hold an M.A. in Teaching, Museum Education (1981) from The George Washington University in Washington, D.C. and a Ph.D. in Education from the University of Toronto (2001).

I have published and spoken widely on museum education and the professional development of museum educators and have taught courses for the University ot Toronto, the University of Victoria, Brock University, and several professional associations. I have helped to develop local communities of practice in Toronto and Hamilton, Ontario (HAM-ED). At the international level I serve on the board of museum-ed and on the advisory panel for the Journal of Education in Museums (JEM), published by the Group for Education in Museums. In 2005 I was honoured to have been awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award of Excellence by the Ontario Museum Association in recognition of my contributions to the development of museum education.
